There are many types of carpet and the end result is dependant on the cut of the fibres in the carpet. Each cut gives a different final look to the carpet from luxurious to a more industrial looking cut. The quality of each cut and materials used varies from company to company because each company will use different materials for their carpets and materials such as wool are more expensive when used in carpets than say nylon.
Some of the different types of cut used in carpet production are below;
Textured plush - This is usually one of the more common types of carpet it is cut so all the lengths of yarn in the carpet are the same. This is one of the most widely used carpets in peoples homes this is because it can be used with almost any kind of decoration. It is great for areas in the home that have a lot of use such as the dining room or living room because they look great but also hide any marks that may be on the carpet well because of the textured surface.
Saxony - This type of carpet is very soft and thick because it has been through a softening process after being woven, the yarns are all the same length but have varying twists. The thick carpet yarns are first woven tightly together so are hard, after this process the yarns are then softened with heat creating the soft thick final result. With it being such a thick type of carpet it is ideal for those rooms that you would like to keep in more heat such as bedrooms or bathrooms.
Cut and loop pile - This type of carpet has a couple of cuts used in the yarn there is the cut pile and the loop. This creates a varying texture on the carpet and can be used to create different patterns and also different colours can be used with this style of carpet cut. This carpet comes in so many varying colours that you would be able to find one that fits in any room.
Berber loop pile - This style is very hard wearing because of the fact that the yarn tips are not exposed the weave is whole loops so they just get worn on the sides and so the twist stays and the tips do not wear down. It tends to have a rougher surface than the cut piles but is great for places with lots of wear to cope with.
