household carpetsThere is a fairly long history behind carpets and also the different types suitable for the home and which areas the different types would be suitable for. This is because some types of carpet are harder wearing than others and then there are other types that are very soft. It is since the way in which carpets are made has developed that there has become such large choice for your home.

Below is some of the history behind the use of carpet in the home and also the types you would use around the house for different purposes;

  • The history of carpets in the home is a long one it stretches back hundreds of years to when people would shave sheep's wool twisting into yarns and threading them together and laying it on the floor. The way in which carpets are made today may be very different but the materials are similar for example many carpet manufacturers still use wool as a main part of their carpet mix. This traditional carpet material is very popular because it is very resilient and is even resistant against stains and fire. It was when the weaving machines were developed that there became more choice for people in their homes and also because they could be made easier and quicker the price of them started to drop as well.
  • There are many different types of carpet that are most suited to all different uses, for example a harder wearing carpet would be more suited to an area of the house that has a high traffic of footwear such as the hall way than a soft less durable carpet would be. A hard wearing type of carpet is a loop cut rather than the plush cut, this is because where as the plush cut has the ends of the yarn exposed the loop cut doesn't so it is just the sides of the yarn that get worn. There are of course variations in the type of material used in the carpet mixes, each of these has qualities over others such as stain resilience or luxurious softness.

carpetsSo when looking for a carpet for your home you should take into consideration where the carpet will be used and how high quality it will have to be. As well as this you would also need to think about the colour so that it would fit in with the rest of the design in the room. If you are unsure about what type of carpet would be best for your needs you could speak to a professional carpet person that could give you advice.
